LAND HO!
— washed up row boats make for fun pickin
The latest rescued wood that has found a place in my ever-growing collection is making itself at home in the workshop. These parts of a washed up row boat smashed into pieces on the rocks along the north end of the Asbury Park beach will soon be repurposed and given a new life. After spotting the brightly painted orange ‘treasure’, i knew i needed the assistance of a fellow rescuer to load up the roof of my car and follow me home… thanks JP.

TOSSED & FOUND
— sometimes more is more
As I continue to experiment with different types of wood, metal, and other found objects, I’m wanting to build my final piece bigger so I can mix the patterns these materials make when grouped together. While designing this one, I struggled a bit, filling the entire space with blocks of wood and collections of rusted metal, but it felt too heavy and cluttered. I found balance in opening up the center to better appreciate the hook and this orangey-red mystery thing I found on the train tracks. In my quest to include different discarded items, I decided to repurpose pages from a tossed paper-back version of the book “Slaves of NY”. I tore out a few of the aged pages and found a line I liked…”clouds of smoke rise into the white moonlit sky.” I printed the text in red over the pages and cut them to fit onto the wooden blocks. I guess if I ever read the book, I’ll have to skip over the chapter with the missing pages.
